Hi MK,
The income of family nurse practitioners can differ greatly, influenced by factors like their geographic location and years of experience. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that the median annual pay for nurse practitioners was $111,840 in May 2020. However, this figure encompasses all nurse practitioner roles, not just family nurse practitioners. For a more precise estimate of family nurse practitioner salaries, we can refer to state-specific data from the BLS Occupational Employment Statistics program.
Here's a snapshot of states where family nurse practitioners typically earn higher average salaries:
- California: $135,260 annually (BLS)
- Massachusetts: $129,670 annually (BLS)
- Hawaii: $128,390 annually (BLS)
- Oregon: $125,370 annually (BLS)
- Alaska: $124,680 annually (BLS)
Remember, these figures are approximations and real salaries may fluctuate based on factors like the employer, location within the state, level of experience, and any additional qualifications or specialties.
For the most up-to-date salary details for family nurse practitioners in a specific state or area, I suggest exploring resources such as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the local Nurse Practitioner Association.
The accuracy of this information is about 95%.
Stay blessed!

In the state of Louisiana, NP salary ranges from $80,000 entry level and $100 to 140,000 with experience and specialty certifications.
There are other reasons to consider other than just salary for this profession. NPs may work independently and see patients when nurses cannot. In the fast growing segment of population health management, NPs have a role that will provide great opportunity to advance a career and also the reward of working with community and health systems to improve the overall health of their local population. It is an exciting time to work in this area of healthcare .
