Preeti’s Answer

Lela, Any business, big or small, requires you to answer a couple of questions before you get into it. Here's how you can start with assessing the viability of your ideas. You can rank your business on the following parameters to begin with:

1.Product: Define what product you will be selling (In this case bracelet). What problems/gaps are you trying to solve through your product? Define further what kind of bracelets you want to sell? (Metal, artifical, funky etc.).

2. Market size: Is there a big enough demand for the product (e.g. the size of the jewelery market - you can get this data from internet based search of research reports or self assessment)? Is there enough market or demand for the subgenre of the product you are trying to sell?

3. Competition: Who are tthe other sellers sellimng in the market? What is their share? What % of market share is vaialble for you to capture?

4. Capabilities: What will be your core strength? How is your product differentiated from other products (brand, design, quality patented etc.)? How will you create inventory (Resell, manufacture)? Which channel are you going to sell your product through (Amazon, website, stores, B2B etc.)? And finally how will you market?

5. Finance: Last but not the least, you need to think about how are you going to get the relevant capital to fund your business ( Bootstrap - your own money, debt, or ask investors)?

Once you have answers to above parameters, you will have the relevant answers on what you want to do next.

Joe’s Answer

Hi Lela, first, you need to create your bracelets. Depending on how much they cost to make and who you imagine buying your bracelets, figure out how much to charge for them. Once you have a product and a price, start promoting your bracelets - leverage family and friends, advertise them on social media, and consider setting up an e-commerce site where people can buy directly from you. Establish a way to deliver bracelets to your buyers, and make sure you have a customer support infrastructure set up to deal with issues, questions, returns, etc. Consider hiring a financial expert to help with income and expenses. Good luck!

ALEJANDRA’s Answer

Dear Lela
Starting a bracelet business with your friend can be a rewarding journey, filled with creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurship. Stay passionate about your products and customers, and don't be afraid to adapt and innovate along the way.

Starting a bracelet business with your friend can be an exciting venture. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

Define Your Niche: Decide what type of bracelets you want to sell. Consider factors such as materials (e.g., beaded, leather, metal), style (e.g., bohemian, minimalist, trendy), and target market (e.g., adults, teens, children).
Market Research: Conduct market research to understand your target audience, their preferences, and competitors. Identify what sets your bracelets apart from others in the market.
Create a Business Plan: Outline your business goals, target market, marketing strategies, sales channels, and financial projections. A business plan will help you stay focused and organized as you start and grow your business.
Choose a Business Structure: Decide on the legal structure of your business, such as a partnership, LLC, or sole proprietorship. Consult with a lawyer or accountant to determine the best option for your situation.
Register Your Business: Register your business name and obtain any necessary licenses or permits to operate legally in your area. Check with your local government or Small Business Administration for guidance.
Source Materials: Find suppliers for the materials needed to make your bracelets. Consider factors such as quality, price, and shipping times when choosing suppliers.
Create Your Product: Design and create your bracelets. Experiment with different styles, colors, and materials to find what resonates with your target audience.
Set Up an Online Store: Choose an e-commerce platform to sell your bracelets online. Options include Shopify, Etsy, Big Cartel, or creating your own website. Optimize your product listings with high-quality photos and compelling product descriptions.
Market Your Business: Use a mix of online and offline marketing strategies to promote your business. Utilize social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest to showcase your bracelets, engage with your audience, and drive traffic to your online store. Consider attending craft fairs, pop-up markets, or collaborating with influencers to reach a wider audience.
Handle Operations: Develop systems for inventory management, order fulfillment, customer service, and shipping. Ensure smooth operations to provide a positive experience for your customers.
Track Finances: Keep track of your income and expenses using accounting software or spreadsheets. Monitor your financial performance regularly and adjust your strategies as needed to ensure profitability.
Scale Your Business: As your business grows, consider expanding your product line, exploring new sales channels, and scaling your operations to meet demand.

Jadie’s Answer

Hello Lela,

Many of the previous responses offer valuable insights on how to systematically build a business. I would also recommend considering your own purchasing habits, as well as those of your friends and peers. Reflect on the resources you already have that could serve as a springboard for your bracelet business.

For instance, if you have a strong social media presence, why not leverage your Instagram or TikTok accounts to increase awareness of your products? Alternatively, consider the local scene. Do you frequent any small, local shops? Small business owners often appreciate the opportunity to introduce new products, especially on a consignment basis, and they could potentially sell your bracelets in their stores.

Best of luck!
