How much money does a dance teacher make?

Hello, my name is Marcella and I am in 12th grade. I am curious about how much does a dance teacher make. My mother told me they don't make a lot. I want to know how much they do make for their job.

Marcella,

You might like to look at a site such as salary.com to see typical salaries for certain occupations. You can get specific with the location as well. There are occupational sites that provide more on particular occupations as well. Something like onetonline.org may help. It depends on where you teach: setting, state and what kind of dance. Choreographers are increasing in popularity with occupational job openings, but again it depends on the location as well, New York is a popular place for choreography positions (as shown by salary.com).

Good Evening,

A Dance Teacher can make as much money as their teaching ability and years of experience. For example, if you have 10 plus years professional in your type of dance, and have been Booked with Agencies, tours, Commercial, or industrial Gigs, you're teaching salary per hour may extend from $40 - $75 an hour, privates, at least Double.

Or If you have less experience, in professional dancing, the average $20 an hour.

Honestly, It would depend on how you are as a dancer/teacher and if you can really teaching quality dancing. If you market yourself, you can make much more money. It's all up to you.

Hope this answers your question.

Claire’s Answer

Hi Marcella,
I asked a Dance Teacher I know in the San Francisco Bay Area. She said that teachers here can make about $20 per hour. If you teach full time, you could possibly make up to $20,000 a year.

Hope this helps.
