I would work part time at an after school facility. Do sports, art have a speciality. It’s good practice to manage a group and give instructions. Become a camp counselor. My high school didn’t offer much as for direction to this. It comes more in community college or university. But classroom management is a huge part of being a teacher these days.

Drawing from my years of experience in the industry, I encourage you to dive into the world of music and music theory. Consider mastering instruments like the keyboard and ukulele if you haven't already. Remember, the most triumphant educators I've encountered had a strong foundation in music prior to beginning their university studies.

Melody’s Answer

Hello Violet,

Your desire to pursue early childhood education as a career is welcoming to the teaching profession. While in high school, you want to make sure you solidly pass your classes adding psychology/deeper social studies classes, beginning mathematics, and possible volunteer opportunities to work with younger kids. It is important to understand how younger students learn and how to set up learning opportunities for them. By volunteering or working for pay with young kids, you get experience that will help you know this is your direction and the different places/styles of early childhood education. Some have used their degrees to open their learning centers. I am hoping for clarity and direction for your future pursuits.
