Common Project Management Interview Questions?
All,
I have an interview for an IT Project Manager position next week. I'm preparing and thought it would be interesting (and valuable to this group) to understand what interview questions you've encountered in some of the interviews you've been on.
Thanks.

Here are some queries you should prepare to address:
1. What strategies do you employ to encourage a team to collaborate effectively in order to meet a challenging deadline?
2. What approach do you take to keep stakeholders informed about the progress of a project?
3. How do you foster team unity and cooperation when there are differing views on the optimal solution to a particular issue?

I do hope your interview went well - some key questions my team usually asks PM prospects are;
· What key deliverables would a PM set up at the start of a project?
· What is the benefit of a RAID log and what would you put in it? (you would be surprised how many candidates googled this one during a virtual interview)
· How do you cope with scope creep from incorrect requirements or from introduction of new scope (if agile project, how do you manage changing requirements)
· What are the key attributes of a good project manager/scrum master?
How do you report to your business on the delivery of the project - what are the key elements you would include?
Hope this helps!

Hi Eric,
I hope the interview went well! In my experience questions are often asked for examples of experience "tell me about a time when..."
My advice is to be prepared to answer those questions with a genuine experience. Even if you were not the project manager on the engagement, but rather a member of the project team, you can refer to a positive or improvable experience. What's important in your answer lies in your ability to communicate that you learned something from the experience and can point to a direct experience.
Some examples of common questions:
1. Tell me about a time that a project milestone was delayed and how did you recover?
2. A manager of a team has one of his assigned resources on your project pulled to cover another priority and they won't be available for the next 2 weeks. How would you address this?
3. How would you communicate risk to a project stakeholder?
