Hi! You MUST make mistakes. That’s the only way to learn and grow. In the tech industry there is a saying, “fail fast”. The goal of that is to learn what doesn’t work as quickly as possible so that you can move on to finding what does work.
Work will always be hard. So the best guide is following what interests you and makes you passionate to stay through those difficult things about any field.

Hello Lila,

Good question! It's completely normal to feel unsure about your career path. Many people experience this doubt at different stages of their lives. Here are some steps that might help guide you:

1. Self-Reflection: Take time to understand your interests, strengths, and values. Ask yourself questions like: What are my passions? What work excites me? What skills come naturally to me? Consider the things you enjoy doing even in your free time.

2. Explore Different Paths: Don't be afraid to explore multiple options. You don’t have to commit right away. Try internships, volunteer opportunities, or part-time jobs in areas you’re interested in. This will give you practical experience and a feel for what the work is actually like.

3. Research: Learn as much as you can about careers you're considering. Look into job prospects, required qualifications, and day-to-day responsibilities. Talking to professionals in the field or finding mentors can provide valuable insights.

4. Align with Your Values: Consider your long-term goals and what you want your life to look like. Does the career align with your personal values? Does it support the lifestyle you envision?

5. Growth and Opportunities: Think about the future of the field. Does it offer opportunities for advancement, learning, and growth? Choosing a career with flexibility and room for development can help you adapt as your interests and the job market change.

6. Get Advice: Talk to people you trust—family, friends, teachers, or mentors. They can offer different perspectives that might help clarify your decision.

7. Test and Adjust: Remember, it’s okay to change your mind. Many people switch careers multiple times. Choosing a path now doesn’t mean you’re locked in forever. Stay flexible and open to new possibilities.

Lastly, trust your gut! Over time, your experiences will help you gain confidence in your decision. It’s natural to worry about making mistakes, but remember, every step is part of your learning journey.

Best wishes!

Hi, Lila! Choosing a profession is an important decision, and it is quite natural to feel insecure about the correctness of the chosen path. Here are a few steps that will help you navigate more confidently in choosing a profession:
1. Self-assessment:
Identify your interests, that is, think about what types of activities or topics you care about. Consider taking career assessment tests that will help identify your interests and strengths. Think about what you are good at and what skills you like to use. These can be both complex skills (technical abilities) and soft skills (communication, teamwork). Understand what is important to you in your work. This may include work-life balance, potential income, job stability, helping others, creativity, etc.
2. Research career:
Explore different career options that match your interests and skills. Familiarize yourself with job descriptions, required qualifications, and day-to-day responsibilities. Chat with professionals in the fields you are interested in. Conduct informational interviews to get an idea of their experience.
3. Education and training:
Determine if you need additional qualifications or training. This can enhance your skills and open up more opportunities in your chosen field. If you are unsure whether to enroll in a degree program, study online courses or seminars that will help you get to know different fields.
4. Gain Work experience:
Hands-on experience can help you better understand a particular field and test your interest in a career without long-term commitments.
5. Be open to change:
Recognize that it's okay to change direction, as many people change careers several times during their lifetime. Accept the idea that you can change direction if something seems wrong to you. If you try something and it doesn't work out, take it as a rewarding experience, not as a failure.

Remember that there is rarely a single "right" way. Career satisfaction often depends on your job matching your personal goals, values, and interests, and it may take time and research to find that match. Be patient with yourself and trust that you will be able to make informed decisions along the way. Good luck! With love, Darya

Hana’s Answer

I was just like you when in high school/college. My biggest piece of advice is not to put so much pressure on deciding your career. I had soo much anxiety about wanting to make a perfect decision too but I don't really think you can know what the perfect career decision is when you are so young. What I did was pick a pretty general degree (I got my degree in business), which allowed me to have more flexibility in deciding what jobs to look for and apply to. Also, you can always change your mind! You can switch careers or jobs at any time if you try something and decide you don't like it. The best thing you can do is keep trying different things out to see what you do and don't like. You got this!
