Hi Victor,

Very good question!

Computer science opens up a world of opportunity. Almost every company and career field are dependent on computers. Look around whenever you go into an office or public space. Chances are very good that you will see computers and people working on them. All of those applications have to be designed, written and maintained.

The previous answers list lots of good career options. Add to those, bio-medical, geo-spatial, networking, website creation, electric vehicles, system programming, real-time controllers, firmware development. Your opportunities are unlimited!

At this point, I would suggest that you focus on learning the basic skills and, as you progress through your academic career, keep an eye out for areas that really interest you. You have time to figure out where your interests lie! So, enjoy your journey!

Best of luck!

Tarun’s Answer

If you're passionate about computer science, you're headed in the right direction. The avenues would branch out as you progress forward but although it's not necessary to have a full picture, it's important to have a vision.
It can vary - find out if you're passionate about programming, develop applications, design graphics, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence etc.
Pick a topic each day, learn enough about it to know if you're passionate about it. Dip your toes in it and evaluate yourself. It is very early in your career and picking a starting point would definitely help you steer forward and clear the fog.

Very similar to picking your starting pokemon - you might be confused with their names but if you know you like fire, you gotta try Charmandar :)
