A successful nurse starts off in the medical field by having previous healthcare experience. There is a huge difference between the nurses who were a Cna and those who were not. It will allow you to gain insight on the bedside manner as well as the duties you will have to fulfill. To work in the hospital will give you the best learning experience as you will get to work hands on with a nurse and if they feel comfortable they will allow you to help them with only duties they can perform but will show you how to go about it.

Lots of empathy and compassionate skills! I've learned to always see the patient as yourself or as a family member and treat them the way you want to be treated once you are "lying" in the bed or on the examination table/chair to be seen by a nurse/doctor. Obtain your CNA from a trade/vocational/community college and work at a nursing home for a bit to gain experience or go to a hospital job. Some hospitals are hard to get into, and that is okay. They want to see what you are planning on bringing to the table. Most clinics (private) hire CNAs as medical assistants, which is another option. You can volunteer as an ER tech or somewhere in the hospital or healthcare setting. That is how you would build up your resume as well. VolunteerMatch is another option to see other volunteer sites!
