Hey there, Rudy! How's the world treating you? I've got a somewhat intricate topic to bring up, but I'll strive to articulate my thoughts on what success and fulfillment signify to me in a clear and encouraging way.
When I was wrapping up my college years, a boss of mine shared a piece of wisdom that stuck with me. He said it's more important to set a limit than a goal. He explained that goals can often feel like dreams that we're always chasing, while a "limit" is something that will eventually come to an end. Basically, he was saying it's crucial to stay grounded in reality.
Let's take an example. Instead of setting an ambiguous goal like "I aspire to be a high-earning engineer with a luxurious house and car", it's more effective to clarify what these terms signify to you. How do you define a "luxurious" house or car? What does "high-earning" look like? If you're unaware of what a novice engineer in your field typically makes, you might be left feeling short-changed when you receive your first paycheck.
This is just a straightforward example to underscore the point. The reality is, success is a unique journey. It's a path that only you can outline and traverse. If you don't establish your own benchmarks for success, you might find yourself pursuing someone else's dream or the illusion of success projected on social media. Believe me, that's a surefire way to dissatisfaction.
When it comes to fulfillment or comfortable, it's actually quite simple. If you've outlined your own version of success, you won't perpetually feel the need for more. To me, comfortable equates to being in a mental state where you're content, happy with yourself, operating in a setting that resonates with your principles and allows you to be true to yourself. It's about having a job that generates sufficient income for you to feel successful and still leaves you with ample time to relish your life.
I hope this resonates with you. Just bear in mind, these concepts are deeply personal and only you can determine what they mean to you. Once you've done that, you're well on your path to attaining both success and fulfillment. Take care!

The first thing you need to do is understand what success means to you. This is a personal definition and it's going to guide your actions and decisions. Once you've defined your success, set your goals and start working towards them.
Remember, learning doesn't stop once you leave school. The world is constantly changing and evolving, so keep up with it by continuously learning and growing. This can open up new opportunities and help you adapt to changes.
Financial stability is another crucial aspect of a comfortable life. Develop good financial habits, such as saving and investing, and understand your income and expenses. This can provide you with the financial security you need to live comfortably.
Work-life balance is also crucial. While your job is important, make sure you're also spending time on your hobbies, relaxing, and nurturing your relationships. Your passion can give you a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Whether it's your job or a hobby, doing what you love can contribute significantly to your success.
Lastly, cultivate a positive mindset. Believe in yourself, be optimistic about the future, and celebrate your achievements. This can help you maintain your motivation and keep striving for success. Remember, this is your journey. You get to define your own success and comfort.

Hi Rudy!
This is a beautiful question. I love to see students starting at a young age that are looking for more than just a career, but a full life. I would say that simply by asking this question you have started in the right direction. You are thinking about what you want your life to look like instead of only focusing on what you want your career to be.
I would say a great place to start would be for you to think about what you want your life to look like on a day to day basis. What would be considered comfortable to you? This answer is going to be different for everyone. Some good questions to ask yourself are:
- Do I want to be able to move around a lot on a day to day basis?
- Do I want more group project work or more solitary work?
- How much or little do I want to travel?
- What are the most important things to me?
- Do I want pets? How will they fit into the life I see for myself?
There are many other questions you could ask yourself, but just sit and take the time to really map out for yourself what you want your life to be. Next, I would say look at how your life is right now, and see what does not align with the life you see in your head. You can make small adjustments now that will lead to bigger changes in the future. You can then do research into the career you are interested in and see how that will fit into the life you want to build for yourself. I would say make sure any company you apply to takes Work/Life balance seriously. It makes building the life you want much easier when the company you work for holds a lot of the same values.
Overall, it is very important to know that you can make your life whatever you want it to be. It may not always mirror what you want, but you can always decide to make changes that fit you and what you are looking for. This can be challenging, but also very rewarding if you stick with it.
I hope this advice was helpful. :)

Hi Rudy,
You are the only person who can determine or define what success looks like. Success is a subjective concept and will always have different meanings for everyone: For some people, being successful means being on the cover of a magazine, owning a business, writing a book, or becoming a manager… For others, success might mean having a 9 to 5 job that pays a check every two weeks, and focusing on their family… And there is nothing wrong with either scenario because it all comes back to our individual goals, perspectives, needs, and lifestyles.
My advice is to give yourself time to know yourself, and then define success. Get to know your most outstanding skills, your life interests, and the things that make you forget about time when you do them. Also, think of those things that you don't like or that stress you, and think as deeply as you can. What are your personal interests? Your favorite features or skills? What accomplishments make you proud? Where would you like to go someday?
Once you have defined that, it's only a matter of mindfully working on your personal and career goals. But keep in mind that goals sometimes might change, and it's okay if they do. You never know what's going to happen next, and your interests or goals might shift as you begin working, learning new things, moving to another city, gaining opportunities, etc.
Wishing you all the best.
