Hi there - Most PR Manager jobs require a degree in Communications or Marketing. As someone who has hired many PR Managers over the last decade, I would highly suggest getting as many internships as you can as it demonstrates your interest in the field and willingness to be hands on and learn all aspects of the profession. Entry level positions are typically PR Coordinators where you support your team and work on general PR activities like media list creation, media alerts, and pitch research. PR Managers at most companies have between 2-4 years of experience. Hope that helps!

A degree in communications or in marketing would be a great foundation to pursue a carrer as a public relations manager.

There are a lot of different roles you can have in PR. I am currently working on a PR team at Dell. I work specifically with our Diversity and Corporate Social Responsibility PR opportunities. I came to get this role by getting an undergraduate degree in business and then an MBA. There were a lot of different roles available at Dell and PR was just one of them. I know a lot of people on my PR team have different backgrounds that are not the same as mine so I know there is a lot of variety with what you can do as far as education and early career in order to become a PR manager.
