How can I better balance my work life and my personal life as a double major and as a commuter #Spring24?
I am double majoring in physics and mechanical engineering, which are known to be extremely tough majors. Because of this, I'm concerned if I'll even have time to spend with my friends and participate in club activities. On top of that, I'm a commuter student which limits my time even more. So I want advice that could help me balance my work schedule with my personal life.
Thank you!!!

Hello, JingFeng-
Regardless of the mode of transportation you will use for your commute, take advantage of that time. It could be as simple as planning out your day. While I was working on my MBA while fully employed, I would make voice notes in my phone. These notes were my schedule for the day or week, my goals for the day, or thoughts on a paper or assignment that I was working on. You'd be surprised on how much thinking you can do on a commute!
The other piece of advice I want to offer is to definitely not give up your social time. Part of what I enjoyed about college was the opportunity to meet the diverse people and trying new things. I wholehearted feel that the social aspects of college help train how I interact with people on a professional basis.
Study hard but please also enjoy the college experience!

I was also thinking that I could use my commute time for doing homework! Thank you for reminding me of that idea!

Thank you for your question. Many people are facing similar challenges including myself. There are a lot of tasks to complete and time is limited. Firstly, it is important to find a good time management tool to help, e.g. MS Outlook, Google Calendar, phone calendar, etc.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Put down the time you need to attend classes and tutorials
2. Assign some time every day to work on your assignment, projects, etc. and also do some revision on the material covered in the class of the day. Avoid last minute rush
3. Make sure you have enough time to sleep and do some exercise
4. Allocate some time for your leisure, friend and family gathering, etc.
5. You may need to assign more time for revision before assessments
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!
