The advice above is accurate, practice is the best way to prepare for a standardized exam. There are plenty of books and resources that provide practice materials. Some might even be available for free through your university library.

To prepare for the account examination, it's recommended that you incorporate reading materials into your study routine to expand your knowledge base and ace your tests. Textbooks, lecture notes, and other readings can also help you build a strong foundation of knowledge. Along with that, I would also solve a lot of past questions. Hopefully, this makes sense!

Hi Mark! The best way to prepare for accounting exams (including the CPA) is practice. Doing as many practice questions as possible will help you learn by doing. Going over questions you get wrong will help you learn a great deal about the topic. Make sure to take breaks as well; sometimes a tough problem can be solved after a short rest. Make sure you have a full nights rest before exam time.

Jenna’s Answer

Hi Mark
I personally found that doing a lot of practice questions was the best way to learn how the examiner typically asks a question and what their expected response was. Referencing back to your notes and any class guidance as you mark your practice papers to ensure you understand the answer to the question is important.
Best of luck!

Hi Mark,

Practice makes perfect. I suggest working through the textbook sample questions with the answers provided. Go step by step and try to explain how they got to their answer.

Then, repeat the process with a different question and check your answer. If you get the question wrong, don't be discouraged. Try to understand why it's wrong and ask your professor questions. Repeat the question again and make a note of the mistake to avoid it next time.

Try some more questions and the repetition should build efficiency and accuracy. When the exam date rolls around, you are prepared and ready to knock it out of the park!

Hi Mark! I recommend Becker or other study tools that will help you grasp the necessary content. Personally I used Becker and it worked well for me. Start by watching the instructional videos and while watching the videos, focus on truly understanding the underlying concepts rather than just memorizing facts. Most importantly, do as many practice questions and simulations as possible. As your exam date approaches, dedicate the last one to two weeks to review. Good luck!

I would first grab your syllabus and give it a good look-through. Know what topics you need to cover and how the exam is gonna be laid out. This will let you focus your efforts effectively. Now, based on this, create a study schedule. Break down the topics into manageable parts and spend some extra time on the tricky stuff. And remember, it's not just about memorizing everything – you need to really understand the concepts. Dive into your course materials, textbooks, and any extra resources your professor has given you.

Next, practice problems. They'll help you get a real feel for applying the concepts you're learning. And if you're finding it tough, don't be shy about asking for help. Maybe form a study group or find a tutor. They can offer different perspectives that might help clarify things. And of course, your professor and TAs are there to help you too. Make sure you're reviewing the material regularly – think of it as a workout for your brain. Try out flashcards or write summaries in your own words. Lastly, don't forget to take care of yourself. Make sure you're eating well, getting enough sleep, and taking breaks when you need to. With the right plan and a consistent effort, you'll be acing that accounting exam in no time!

Hi Mark! I would really encourage you to find out the way you learn best and adapt your studying to that. If you're working through accounting classes and prepping for the CPA, there's tons of different tools: videos, practice questions, study textbooks. Being well rounded in all available learning materials is important, but knowing the way your brain processes information can make the concepts easier to grasp. I found that reading the textbooks ahead of time, making notes on questions I couldn't grasp from the text and following up in the lecture/video was the best way for me personally. Practice questions helped identify topics I needed more help on. If you have one available in your school, writing out formulas and questions on the board lets you track things step by step while talking it out. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it! Everyone, including all of us and your professors, all grappled with learning the materials too.

Accounting is a beefy topic that builds on itself. Grasping foundational concepts will help make the slide into more advanced work and studying easier, especially if you've already figured out the studying method that works for you.

Good luck!

Hunter’s Answer

I believe that the most effective method to prepare for accounting exams is to delve deeply into the principles of accounting. As you review your study materials, it's crucial to avoid focusing solely on memorization. I've found that truly comprehending the underlying principles behind the questions leads to success. For instance, if a question pertains to impairment, I concentrate on understanding the essence of impairment and its impact on the asset. Although memorizing impairment tests can be helpful, it's more critical to grasp the theories behind these tests. By honing in on these principles and employing analytical thinking, you're likely to discover the answer or at least some potential solutions. Therefore, my top suggestion would be to invest time in understanding the reasons behind specific accounting procedures. While I still strongly endorse Becker for CPA exam preparation, my performance in all accounting exams has consistently improved when I comprehend the processes beyond merely applying memorized formulas for calculations.
