Hello Kelsie,
Discovering the Top Esthetician Schools in Wisconsin
Embarking on your journey to become an esthetician in Wisconsin requires careful selection of the right school. Key factors such as accreditation, curriculum, hands-on training, job placement support, and overall reputation play a pivotal role. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you make an informed decision:
1. Identify Accredited Schools: Prioritize schools that hold accreditations from esteemed organizations like the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences (NACCAS) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is a testament to the school's commitment to quality standards.
2. Assess Curriculum: Scrutinize the curriculum of each potential school. A well-rounded program should encompass a broad spectrum of esthetician services, including skincare, facials, and brow treatments. Prioritize schools that emphasize hands-on training and practical experience.
3. Consider Job Placement Support: Opt for schools that offer job placement aid or have robust ties with local salons, spas, or skincare clinics. This can prove instrumental in landing a job post-graduation.
4. Visit Schools and Connect with Students/Alumni: If feasible, tour the schools you're considering to get a sense of the campus, facilities, and faculty. Engaging with current students or graduates can offer invaluable insights into their experiences at the school.
5. Review Feedback and Reputation: Scour online reviews from current and past students to gauge the school's reputation. Positive feedback about the quality of education, faculty, and post-graduation support are strong indicators of a commendable institution.
Based on these guidelines, some of the top schools for esthetician education in Wisconsin include:
1. The Institute of Beauty and Wellness (IBW): Situated in Milwaukee, IBW delivers extensive esthetics programs encompassing skincare techniques, facials, brow treatments, and beyond. The school boasts NACCAS accreditation and a solid industry reputation.
2. Bellus Academy: Located in Green Bay, Bellus Academy provides immersive training in esthetics, emphasizing practical skill-building. The school offers job placement support and collaborates with top skincare brands.
3. Aveda Institute Madison: Aveda Institute in Madison offers an esthiology program that blends traditional esthetics training with Aveda’s holistic skincare approach. The institute is renowned for its superior education and focus on sustainability.
These schools shine due to their accreditation, comprehensive curriculum, hands-on training opportunities, job placement support, and positive industry reputation.
Top 3 Authoritative Sources Consulted:
1. American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS): AACS offers details on accredited beauty schools nationwide and establishes standards for cosmetology education.
2. NACCAS (National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences): NACCAS accredits postsecondary institutions offering programs in cosmetology arts and sciences.
3. State Board of Cosmetology: The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services supervises licensing requirements for estheticians in Wisconsin and can provide details on approved schools in the state.

Hello, Kelsie !
Your first step would be to discover the schools in your state which offer Esthetician studies. I have left a link to a list of them below. Once you have chosen one or more to explore, read their webiste(s) and arrange to do an in-person visit for a tour so you can get a hands-on feel for the school(s). Once you have selected which school you'd want to apply to there are things that you can do now to prepare and get some experience before enrollment.
If you are in high school, venture into the theatre club or department and let them know that you want to do makeup for their plays. If you are in college already, same procedure with the Theatre Department as well as a Film Department. Photograph any make up that you do and start a hard copy portfolio as well as an online electronic portfolio of all your work. You can also do some research online and see if you can come up with some unique basic and simple facials to start with. Put the recipes in your portfolio too as facials you have created. Read about which ingredients benefit which types of skin. I have left two links below for you to become more familiar with which ingredients are used in facials that are applied to the skin. In Esthetician school, you will learn about facial devices such as Dermaplaning, Opti Precision, Massaging Beauty Roller, Skin Toning devices, Microneedling, LED Light Therapy for acne and Hi-Skin Device to monitor and analyze skin. I'm sure there are more but it's something to look forward to once you are in Esthetician School.
You can also build your portfolio by working on friends and family, showcasing make-overs or any style of makeup you like to do. Just be sure to photograph all of your work.
You will find the "best" school by following this advice and I wish you all the best in this exciting journey !
