4 years high school
4 years college
4 years medical school
I believe it's 7 years of internship and residency in Neurosurgery
Surgery is very competitive. This will be a long and hard road. You will need to study extremely hard.
I recommend everyone interested in medical school go work as a medical scribe. They teach you the language of medicine. You can get a summer job and this allows you to shadow a doctor, interact with him/her and you get paid. The medical students who worked as scribes during their externship were more prepared because they already had experience.

Nikolaos’s Answer
Hi Derry,
As Karissa mentions, becoming a brain surgeon requires a deep commitment to education and training, which requires you cultivate strong study habits and resilience. During college, find the chance to engage in activities that enhance your understanding of medicine and patient care, like volunteering at hospitals or participating in medical research. As you progress, it would be really helpful to seek out mentors in the field of neurological surgery and gain hands-on experience through internships. Finally, being a doctor requires empathy, emotional intelligence, and strong communication skills to support patients and ensure effective interactions.
Best of luck!
Regards,
Nikolas
