How do I figure out what I want my career to be?
I’m a rising junior in high school and I know I have time to figure it out, but I want to make my college experience meaningful. I want to pick a good college for whatever I want to major in. I also don’t want to lose a bunch of time or money from switching majors or anything like that.

Hey, Laura.
Great question!
To discover your ideal career path, begin with a thorough self-assessment to pinpoint your interests, skills, and values, focusing on what truly inspires you. Research different careers by studying job descriptions and watching informative videos. Once you've narrowed down a few options, gain practical experience through job shadowing, internships, and volunteering to gauge which roles resonate most with you. Utilize your school's career counseling services and seek out mentors for valuable insights. Consider taking online quizzes for initial guidance, but keep an open mind throughout the exploration process. Reflect on your experiences and establish clear goals to make well-informed decisions about your career trajectory and college major, understanding that your passions may evolve over time.
Ultimately, there's no fixed timeline for figuring things out, and it might require trying out different jobs before discovering your true calling. However, prioritize pursuing activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.

Thank you for your question. I am glad to hear that you have already thought about your future careers and the relevant major. It's true that different colleges have strength in different subjects. Firstly, find out what careers you have interest.
Below are my suggestions:
1. Think about what careers you have interest, eg your hobbies, favourite subjects etc and identify the related careers
Eg of you like music, would you like to be a musician, singer, musical artist, music composer, music producer, etc
If you have interest in maths, would you like to be an accountant, engineer, banker, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counselor, your parents, etc
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue. The relevant subjects are the major and minor you can consider
5. Explore the college review on these subjects and find out the entry criteria
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!
