If you're studying medicine outside the U.S., you'll need to pass the Foreign Medical Graduate Exam and apply for a surgical residency in the U.S. Once you've completed your residency, and if you haven't had much exposure to neurology, you can opt for a neurosurgery fellowship to round off your training. Naturally, there are both written and practical skills tests to tackle along the way. But, these are the general steps to becoming a neurosurgeon in the U.S., which, aside from the initial exam, are the same as for a U.S. student. It's a journey, but a rewarding one!
