James’s Answer

Hello Johana,

I am not a surgeon myself, but I was able to research how a person typically goes about becoming a surgeon. The first step it typically to pursue a bachelor's degree. This is just part of a long and challenging process that (on average) requires 12 years or more of education past the high school level. You can prepare to become a surgeon quite early if you have the drive by taking medicine, biology, mathematics, and chemistry related preparatory classes in high school. This preparation can continue while pursuing a bachelor's degree by taking courses related to the medical field. These may include several types of chemistry, biology, and physics. After this, your next move would be to apply for medical school. For more information about this process, I will include the link to a website where I did some of my research. I hope you find some of this helpful. Thank you for sharing your questions with Career Village!
