Hi Peris,
The best accounting course depends on the student. An intro to financial accounting as mentioned before is good if you don't have much knowledge on the subject because it gives an overview on how accounting works and the financial reports needed by companies. An intro to managerial accounting covers accounting for decision making within a business. The higher level accounting courses are built on the knowledge gained from these two classes.
If you prefer the financial accounting more then it might be good to consider public accounting, while the certified managerial accounting is an option for those that prefer managerial accounting. Both of these having their own requirements to be become licensed.

Accounting courses provide a great business background for students of all majors. At most colleges and universities there are likely certain introductory courses that need to be completed first in order to start to take classes on more specific and advanced topics like tax or audit. I would recommend that accounting students go out of their way to find a good accounting analytics class as I have found the topic both enjoyable to learn about and you learn a lot of tools that you'll use in your day to day in industry.

Peris, I support the other responders in that everyone should take an into to Accounting course. Even if you don't pursue this area for your major, it is a good platform for your life. I suggest you look at two things: (1) what size company you want to work for. I know it is early in your life, but some people gravitate toward big companies or small companies. In addition, (2) what type of work do you think you'd like to do? There's tax accounting, for individuals, like your parents' annual tax return preparation, or for corporations; accounts receivable, processing payments; payables, paying a company's bills; etc.. With every business you interact with - from your college, your grocery store, businesses you frequent like restaurants, ask them about who does their accounting and ask to talk with those people. You can get feedback directly from those who do the job - what skills are important, what type of education is required, what a typical day/week/month looks like. Good luck in your education!
