If I have a degree in Fashion Marketing what are the different job options and what do they do? ?

Im a high school senior who is interested in working in the fashion industry, specifically the marketing side. I am also interested in social media!

If you are interested in a career in Fashion Marketing, my recommendation would be to start researching different fashion, apparel or accessory brands. Start with your favorite brands - check out company website, current job opportunities (especially jobs related to fashion marketing and media), social media pages, etc. See what they're looking for, in terms of training, education, and experience.

If you're interested in Fashion Marketing for an apparel brand, research a range of brands like Gap Inc, Levi's, H&M, etc. and more premium brands like Ralph Lauren, D&G, Gucci, Coach. Notice or study all of the marketing strategies they use to interact with their audience/ customers, from in-person to digital marketing. See if you can interview or shadow someone with a Fashion Marketing career. Some of the corporate companies offer training programs or internships after/ during college, as well.

Look for colleges who have Fashion Marketing programs, like Fashion Institute of Technology, in NewYork. These types of schools will best prepare you and provide a network of people in the industry.

Fashion Marketing is broad, so focus on learning the aspects that sound most interesting to you, or you enjoy the most.

I’m very happy to hear that you have a passion for fashion, are social media savvy, and have a strong interest in marketing.

From my perspective, you’ll be very well suited for a job in the PR Department (Public Relations) of one or the other quite upscale Fashion House. Such companies keep lists of their celebrity clientele, for example. Part of the job of the PR associates is contacting these people (or their stylists) and making arrangements with them for viewing the company current collections, trying to sell an item or two from the spread, and keep the social media channels updated with the outcome of such collaborations.

For smaller businesses, the PR work is done by contract, with an independent PR agent or another business that does PR for multiple companies. Here is your chance to own your business, if you’re so inclined.

This is just one career approach that seems most suitable to me, but I’m sure there are plenty more. The fashion marketing has many different approaches, and it’s also changing rapidly ( just look at the online retail that’s becoming dominant in the recent years). By the time you graduate from college with your degree in marketing, there will be new ways to apply your skills, and the social media will be that much more exciting, too.

I wish you all the best in your future studies. Keep at it. It seems you know what your natural gifts are, and that’s the biggest part of figuring out your professional goals.
