Hi Imani!
Yes, it is possible to get into a private school with a full-ride scholarship. Many private schools offer scholarships, financial aid, or grants to deserving students. The difficulty level varies depending on factors like:
1. School's competitiveness
2. Number of available scholarships
3. Your academic performance, talents, and achievements
4. Financial need
To increase your chances:
1. Research private schools in Illinois (some top ones include:
- University of Chicago Laboratory Schools
- Francis W. Parker School
- Latin School of Chicago
- Northwestern University's Center for Talent Development)
2. Review their scholarship offerings and eligibility criteria
3. Maintain an excellent academic record and engage in extracurricular activities
4. Prepare for and take required entrance exams (e.g., SSAT, ISEE)
5. Submit a strong application, including essays, recommendations, and transcripts
6. Demonstrate financial need (if required)
Some popular scholarship options:
1. National Merit Scholarship
2. National Achievement Scholarship
3. Illinois State Scholarship
4. Private school-specific scholarships
Remember, a full-ride scholarship is competitive, but it's worth exploring. Start researching and preparing early to increase your chances. Good luck!

Hello, Mia !
It's awesome to see your question about private schools in your state. I would be happy to contribute some advice for you about this. Do you have the full scholarship already or is it something you are planning to apply for ?
If you were to receive full funding for your college path, they would send you a notification letter and probably other papers that clearly spell out the guidelines as to where you are obligated to use it. You will have to begin applying early for full funding and keep in mind that they are very competitive as well as screened for highly exceptional students. They want to see that you've achieved a lot through extracurriculars or volunteer work while you were in high school, so you can begin being exceptionally active with that now. There are other criteria for which you will have to be eligible for also. You should also apply to both the full funding scholarships as well as the smaller scholarships. You can apply for them every year.
To apply for a full-ride scholarship, the requirements are high test scores (SAT. PSAT or ACT), List of your accomplishments, your writing ability, Letter of Recommendation and an Interview.
I want to name the Full-Ride Scholarships that you can apply for that would be easily found through a search on the internet. These scholarships are the Coolidge Scholarship, Cameron Impact Scholarship, Gates Scholarship, Questbridge National College Match, Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship, USDA 1890 National Scholars Program, ROTC Scholarships, SMART (Science, Mathematics & Research for Transformation) Scholarship, The Stephen Joel Trachtenberg (SJT) Scholarship Program, and the Robertsons Scholars Leadership Program. You can also do a search for what is called Full-Tuition Scholarships.
As for private colleges in Illinois, there are very many to choose from. I will mention a few of them here. You can consider Illinois Institute of Technology, Millikin University, Monmouth College, Olivet Nazarene University, Quincy University, McKendree University, Judson University,
Illinois College, Eureka College, Elmhurst University, Augustana College, Bradley University and so many more that you can search for online. Explore these and more colleges to see which ones you like.
You're correct in wondering if it is at all possible to obtain a full-ride scholarship. Yes, it is possible. It will take a lot of time, effort and hard work and lots of dedication for the application process and if it's something that you really want, anything is possible. As with all grants and scholarships it is a matter of applying and waiting to hear back. That is why you should apply for many large and small scholarships and cover a lot of ground to increase the possibility of being awarded a full-ride (we used to call it Full Funding) or some smaller scholarships and grants. If you have any more questions about college funding, do feel free to come back here to Career Village and ask what's on your mind.
I wish you well and hope that this is helpful !
