Being a security guard can have a positive impact on your life and others in several ways:
1. Protecting people and property can give you a feeling of fulfillment and responsibility.
2. Security work develops skills like observation, communication, and crisis management, which are valuable in many careers.
3. Security is an essential service, providing a relatively stable source of income.
4. Security work can offer varying shifts and schedules, allowing for flexibility in your personal life.
As for doing hair on the side, it's definitely possible! Many people successfully balance multiple passions and careers. Consider the following:
1. Creative outlet: Hair styling can be a creative expression and stress relief.
2. Supplemental income: Offering hair services can provide extra income and financial security.
3. Flexibility: You can choose when and how much you want to work on hair, fitting it around your security schedule.
4. Transferable skills: Attention to detail, communication, and customer service skills can benefit both careers.
However, remember to:
1. Check company policies: Ensure your security employer allows secondary jobs or side hustles.
2. Manage time effectively: Balance your schedules and responsibilities to avoid conflicts.
3. Set boundaries: Maintain professionalism and separate your two careers when necessary.
Pursuing multiple passions can enrich your life and provide a sense of fulfillment. Just be mindful of time management and potential conflicts.
PS: I’m the one that shaves my dad’s hair. Lol :)

Hi Joy.
Thanks for the answer.
As a security guard I would like to add that the stability talked about is not always there unless you work for a big company like Securitas or Allied Universal, or land a gig on a federal contract.
You're completely correct though about everything else. The key to having a happy life outside of work in any profession is to have a work life balance, and not being a pushover.

Hello, Sa'jada !
I think that being a security guard would be great for you and you can always do hair as well. You can more or less freelance for doing hair. There are some options on how you can work this.
You can go to Cosmetology School once you graduate high school and work as a security guard at night and on the weekends. If you are curious about what you'll need to do to make these two careers work, I will discuss that for you.
Becoming a cosmetologist begins with enrolling in a cosmetology program either at a community college or a specialized cosmetology school. At college, it is a two year program for which you would receive an Associate Degree. At a specialized cosmetology school, the programs vary so you can check that information from the schools that are near you. When you have put in your required hours working on real customers at the school, and complete an apprenticeship program in the state of Washington, you will then take your exam for your license. The fees for passing the exam and your License afterwards are minimal amounts for your state of Washington. I've left a link for you below for more information about this.
To become a security guard in the state of Washington, you will first need to take a Washington State government approved Security Guard Licensing Course. Complete 16 hours of training, get fingerprinted and have a background check done. You would then apply for your Security Guard License. You will be expected to have four hours of refresher training every two years to keep your license active. I've provided a referral link below for more information about this.
I would not recommend or advise doing hair without a license even though I know that people do it. You would be opening up liability for yourself and you wouldn't be able to get as many customers as you would if you are licensed and can freely work in salons and also advertise or have business cards for your freelance work.
Working as a Security Guard is different from one place to the next. Decide where you want to work, what shifts may be able to be good for what else you want to do so you can work around the other things you need to accomplish. Find out what businesses in your area use security guards and which venue would be to your liking. Some places that you can work unarmed would be construction sites, retail stores, hospitals, warehouses, and event venues. When you go for your training, you will probably learn of more places and how to be armed or an unarmed security officer. You can work as a direct hire at a company or through an Agency.
Being a security guard is one of those careers in which you help people directly and indirectly for your whole shift. You will probably gain great satisfaction knowing that you are making life easier for many people and it is a great work history to have if you later decide to transition to a different career.
I hope that this is of help and I wish you all the best as you explore two exciting career interests !
