Becoming a doctor will be one of the hardest things you will ever do. I recommend that you work as a medical scribe. This gives you the exposure to doctors and actually experience that doctors do on a daily basis. I volunteered when I was in high school and college and it did not prepare me for medical school. Being a scribe teaches you the language of medicine.

I would recommend becoming a volunteer at your local hospital. This will give you the opportunity to observe physicians in action, and help you determine if this is the career path you wish to take. Volunteer service has additional benefits as well, such as being a resume builder, and giving you a sense of self satisfaction that you are doing some good for your community. I know that one of the things that keeps me going on a tough day at work is the knowledge that I am helping people and the community.

Always remember, it's important to take things one step at a time. You have a lofty goal, and that's truly commendable. However, it's crucial to focus on your immediate tasks in high school. Make sure to engage in challenging courses, AP classes, and strive for high scores on your SAT or ACT exams. This will greatly increase your chances of securing admission into a pre-med program with scholarships.
The MCAT exams are another hurdle you'll need to cross, and they aren't a walk in the park. Also, bear in mind that the field you'll eventually specialize in may not entirely be your choice - it often depends on the needs of the teaching schools and the demand in specific areas.
In summary, don't stop reaching for the stars, but remember to lay a strong foundation in high school. This will smooth your path to becoming a doctor or surgeon.
