How can I afford college if I don't have anyone to help me get loans?

Both of my parents have very bad credit due to my father going to jail multiple times. Because of this, I am worried that I won't be able to get loans for college. I have no one to cosign for me and I can only get around $5500 through the federal government. #financial-aid #college #loans #student-loans

Thank you comment icon Scholarship like crazy. Sites like Unigo, Cappex, and Niche have tons of options Tanner

Hi, if one of you parents will apply for a plus loan (parent loan through the government) and is declined, that will open doors for you to borrow under additional loans in your own name. I would speak with your financial aid advisor at the school.

Best wishes,

Sherri

Not sure how close you are to getting into college but you can start building your own credit. Open up a credit card that are for first time cc holders and use it regularly and pay it off completely at the end of each statement. There’s not point in getting a cc to build your credit if you’re not going to pay it off in full. Also look at other options such as grandparents or aunts and uncles as co-signers if you can.

Hi Madelyn, there are companies you can try and get a job through that will help with college tuition. I would also look into trying to get grants and scholarships. Good luck!
