Teaching is indeed a commendable endeavor, congratulations on taking the first step! There are numerous actions you can take, and the above suggestions about college opportunities are excellent. Furthermore, I would advise gaining as much experience as you can in dealing with children. You could work at a summer camp, a preschool, or even volunteer at a nearby elementary school. There's a plethora of opportunities out there, so find something you love and dive right in!

I am assuming you are a senior in high school.
1. Explore universities/colleges that offer degrees in education. Study the requirements. Most, if not all, will have education students do a practicum. In other words, be in a classroom with the class teacher for a period of time.
2. Go to the elementary schools in your area. Talk to the principal about being allowed into classrooms to observe. Of course, this would also mean talking to the teachers involved.
3. Do a search to explore what are the current issues in elementary education. Especially in your area.
4. Talk to your high school counselor about your desire to teach elementary education. That person may have additional ideas.
But number one and two above I would think are the most important.
