Kevin P’s Answer

I’m new to Career Village and based on previous experience decided to sign up as a mentor. I’ve quickly learned that this is one of the best judgement-free places to ask questions to make you (and me, honestly) better humans.

Whether you ask for school, career, life, or possibly coding, the answers are from the heart and in a good way biased. I say in a good way because typically experts from a given field give their perspective. It makes for great dialogue.

So whatever the topic, subject, idea, or concern is, I encourage you to ask the question. The answers might surprise you, in a good way.

Feel free to post a lot of questions. You deserve answers. Let us give them to you.

Hello, Williams !

Superb question ! I am glad to see that someone has led you to Career Village and you want more information about it.

Career Village is a non-profit service with their mission statement being "to democratize access to career information and advice for underrepresented youth". That being said, we have students here from all parts of the United States and also internationally. It is an advice website for college and career matters and issues connected to school or work.

The Advisors here are professionals in a wide range of careers and some students. The advisors can address your specific concerns and questions with personalized advice, information and referrals. Career Village is very important because there are some parts of the U.S. and other countries where there is a lack of services for school aged people. There may not be a social service agency serving teens or adults close by, but you can rely on Career Village to be here 24/7. This is why Career Village is so important, giving access to those that need guidance or information about college and career paths, or just about the experience of being a student or an employee.

I have been a volunteer at Career Village for six years now, and I can honestly say that it is a most satisfying experience, having the opportunity to give back to a large community in a way that could help when there is such a lack of other services around. Career Village welcomes all people and also has articles to read on their website (link is below).

I hope that you return and also let your friends know about Career Village so that they can know that there is something out there for them. Best wishes in all you do !

Mary Patrice’s Answer

Great question, Williams! It’s a fantastic resource for anyone navigating their career path. Essentially, CareerVillage.org is an online platform where you can get personalized career advice from real professionals. If you have specific questions about job searching, career transitions, or even industry trends, you can submit them directly on the site. What’s great is that you’re not just getting generic advice; you’re receiving insights tailored to your unique situation from people who’ve been there themselves. The community is incredibly friendly and dedicated to providing helpful, personalized responses to meet your needs. It’s like having a mentor or a network of career experts at your fingertips, ready to offer guidance and support. I’ve found it really useful for getting practical answers and perspectives that aren’t always easy to find through a simple internet search. If you’re looking for some direction or just need a bit of professional insight, it’s definitely worth checking out. Let me know if you have any other questions or if there’s anything else I can help with!
