Do you recommend changing majors in college or is it better to stick with the same major because of requisites?

I am very curious as to be open to change my major in college from biochemistry to something else or should I simply stick with one major throughout all four years. #college-student

It depends what you want to do. Sometimes you find a course that peaks your interest that wasn't what you originally had in mind. I'd say that's great. Follow what you are truly interested in but try to settle on something within the first couple of years otherwise you may have some heavy costs associated with lengthening your time in school. If you are stuck in something that really isn't your thing then it's easier to change it now. But think of it in terms of what you want to do after you graduate... I didn't enjoy every course I took, but sometimes it's a matter or sticking it out because it's a requirement for what you really want down the road.

Thank you comment icon College is about much more than any specific class you take. It shows potential employers your ability to grow and finish what you started. Most graduates end up in positions that fall outside their specific field of study however, if you want to be an accountant, biochemistry is probably not for you. The time is now to take a hard look at what your innate interests are but don’t switch gears because it’s difficult, elevate yourself to meet the challenge. It’s critically important to follow your bliss in life. If you love what you do you will be happy and fulfilled. If it is indeed science then stick with it. This gets you out of school and into the workforce. Most companies provide tuition reimbursement if you choose to move in a new direction later on. Good luck! Jim Carroll

Sam’s Answer

Change majors if you genuinely think that your current one doesn't generate excitement within yourself. Think about it like this: if no one in the whole world knew what major you were doing, would you still do your current one? If the answer is yes, do it. If the answer is no, don't do it.

I think this depends. Although I’d like to say Change your major if u want to do something else, it is very expensive and time consuming. I would first look into people in the jobs you want or that would be your end goal of another profession. Then reach out to them on linked in and try to get them to speak with you. They may tell you that there is a way to navigate towards a career where you are interested withal the major you have. Good luck!
