Hello Nicolette,

Good question! To advance in a medical administration career, several degrees can help you gain the necessary skills and qualifications. Beyond an associate's degree, consider the following degree options to help you progress:

1. Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration (BHA) or Healthcare Management
- Overview: A BHA provides a strong foundation in managing healthcare facilities, understanding healthcare policy, financial management, and organizational leadership.
- Benefits: Prepares you for mid-level management positions in hospitals, clinics, and healthcare organizations.
- Skills Gained: Leadership, financial planning, human resources management, healthcare law, and compliance.

2. Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH)
- Overview: This degree focuses on the broader public health system and the role of administrators in improving public health.
- Benefits: Opens opportunities in health policy, government health agencies, and large healthcare organizations.
- Skills Gained: Epidemiology, health policy analysis, project management, and public health education.

3. Master of Health Administration (MHA)
- Overview: An MHA is designed for those looking to take on higher-level leadership and executive roles within healthcare organizations.
- Benefits: Provides in-depth knowledge of healthcare operations, advanced leadership, strategic planning, and policy development.
- Skills Gained: Organizational leadership, healthcare economics, strategic management, and policy development.

4. Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a Healthcare Concentration
- Overview: An MBA with a focus on healthcare combines business management principles with healthcare-specific knowledge.
- Benefits: Prepares you for leadership positions, especially in larger organizations or healthcare-related corporations.
- Skills Gained: Financial management, business strategy, healthcare economics, and operational leadership.

5. Bachelor’s or Master’s in Health Information Management (HIM)
- Overview: Focuses on managing patient data, information systems, and healthcare technologies.
- Benefits: Highly relevant in today’s technology-driven healthcare world and opens doors to positions in health informatics and data management.
- Skills Gained: Data analysis, information governance, healthcare technology systems, and compliance with healthcare regulations.

6. Master of Public Health (MPH)
- Overview: Provides a deep understanding of public health systems, policy, and the social factors that impact health.
- Benefits: Allows for roles in public health leadership, policy development, and health program administration.
- Skills Gained: Public health administration, epidemiology, biostatistics, and health program management.

7. Doctor of Health Administration (DHA)
- Overview: The DHA is designed for healthcare professionals aiming for top executive positions.
- Benefits: Focuses on leadership, advanced research, and decision-making in healthcare.
- Skills Gained: Policy development, healthcare leadership, healthcare research, and organizational change management.

8. Certifications (Optional but Valuable)
- Certified Medical Manager (CMM)
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS)
- Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE)

Certifications combined with advanced degrees can further enhance your qualifications for leadership roles.

The best path depends on how far you want to advance and what aspect of medical administration interests you most (management, health information, public health, etc.).

Best wishes!
