Thank you comment icon Hi, Feril. I do not think that you would be jobless if you go into programming, I think because there is a high demand for programming, it just depends on where you look for your position. I think you should take all your coursework, and then do an paid internship, or volunteer work, and find out from employers if there is a high demand in your area where you live. I think that there is always a need for programmers because there is always emerging and new technology coming out, so you probably can always find something in this field dealing with Computer Science. It'll depend on your skills and where you are physically located. There's always a chance you end up without a job, you can't ever guarantee things 100%. Generally though, there's a lot of jobs for programmers. Even Lebanon with like 25%+ unemployment has openings for programmers.

Right if a solar flare comes around and destroys all electronics permanently, programmers will be out of jobs universally. But short of that, computers run everything now, and they all need to be programmed :)

Pls think broader, don’t think about Programming only but think about Computer Science. It is a blend of Business, Engineering, and Mathematics where Programming is an aspect of Computer Science. A degree in Computer Science requires programming courses like Compilers, Databases, or Operating Systems. You as graduate whose major is Computer Science will know how to code, some better than others which give you an advantage.

If you are still before the decision which College to choose, I would suggest you look at the programming track in Computer Science, (the best if Computer Science is in the College of Engineering), and take programming oriented courses.

I think others already offer good advice, as other points out, computer science is more than just programming. it has a engineering part, a mathematics part and a science part. programming is using the language tools to solve those problems (engineering, mathematics and science). if you think in that context, then you have the mindset to go to college. coding is a trade skill, you can learn that with/without college. I saw a 10 years old kid on YouTube exposed a blue-tooth security issue in toys, he definitely know programming and did not go to college yet, he solve it because he understood the engineering work behind blue tooth technology.
