i want a career in travelling

I have been in the accounting field for over a year now. But its just not what I wanted in life. All I want is a job where I can travel and earn money except a marketing job. Any ideas guys? #travel

Thank you comment icon Could you tell us a little more about what type of traveling you would like to do? Do you care more about being on the road a lot, or do you want to visit exotic locations of some particular type. It would change the recommendations greatly, I suspect. Jared Chung, Admin

Consulting and journalism both involve travel. If you've done accounting, then consulting could be an option.

Also, if you're set on traveling I wouldn't rule out marketing until you've tried it.

If you're trying to move from accounting to another field which involves more travel, you could definitely try consulting. Some other more diverse options to consider: join the diplomatic corps, become an aid worker for USAID or some other similar organization, move abroad to teach english, join a non-profit organization that serves internationally, join a supranational organization like the UN or the WTO.

However, I wonder if you need to leave accounting to be happy. What type of accounting do you do now? Have you considered trying a different type of accounting? For example, forensic accounting could spice things up a bit, and get you traveling some more. There are also many bulge bracket accounting firms which will ask you to travel to visit clients for your advisory. You might be able to achieve your goals of traveling more consistently without leaving the accounting field, if you still enjoy accounting. If not, then making a career switch sooner than later is likely the right choice.

You could also consider a career within the housing industry - there are many jobs (everything from relocation for insurance, hotel management, property management, etc) that require traveling within your assigned region to visit properties and/or conferences specific to the housing industry.
