It much more independent. You may not receive as much one on one attention and/or direction that you may be used to receiving in High School. Your work load will be heavier and your classroom size will be alot bigger as well. You will not have hall monitors, truancy officers, guidance counselors etc concerned with your well being, on an individual level. Whether or not you go to class is completely up to you. It's a bigger and more independent responsibility. It will test and strengthen your majority and commitment to handling your responsibilities.

Thank you comment icon College is different from high school because you are making decisions/choices about going to class or not; completing an assignment, and recognizing that you may need additional help. You will want to use any many resources as your College of choice provides you to make sure that you are getting the most out of your classes and that you are learning new experiences along the way. I found it best to ask questions, take notes, and always find out the Professor's 'extra help' hours. This allows you to drive your own destiny in the class and be a self-starter. As for personal activities, explore as many as you can and that you find interesting...make the most of this time in your life because it can be one of the most memorable and rewarding. Thank you comment icon No one is taking attendance or tracking you down to turn homework in. You need to study in addition to the lecture in the class. Many times what the teacher is lecturing about is not included in the text book or visa versa. It's much more independant and rewarding than high school. You're there because you want to be in that class. Maria Bennett

Shannon’s Answer

Most if not all professors will have weekly office hours. Go to these for specific questions with help you may needed (homework, specific questions about projects, etc.) Some classes like sciences classes will have Teaching assistants as well whom you can go to for individual help. As Brittany said it's much more independent and you don't have the same class everyday so it's much easier to procrastinate. Do not do that. There will be many distractions and fun new experiences as you meet many similar aged, similar interest people so finding a healthy schoolwork-social life balance is key. Take freshman 1st semester to find what personally works for you and adjust the rest of your college career accordingly
