Is taking a child development course during the summer a good first step for someone who wants to take psychology as a major in college?
I am currently a junior in high school who is trying to decide on a major for college. Last year I took a Child Development course during the Summer and found it to be something I would want to continue studying. I have always been fascinated with how the mind works so I was wondering if taking the course was a good step into seeing what a psychology major would be like. #psychology #major

I finished my degree in psychology it was very rewarding in developing my mind and giving me clarity on what I wanted to do in my career.
What I learned best was more about me which helped me with my career path. So if you are unclear on your career path but you think you want to work with children do both. Life takes you in so many different directions and learning yourself takes time. You are still young and have plenty time.

I took Child Development in my very first semester as an undergrad myself. Not only does it provide an introduction to psychology as an area of study, it also provided my with a nice introduction to college work in general (combining lecture with primary research).

Any classes/courses you can take now, as a high school student, about some of the basics of psychology and human development will give you a general idea of what to expect from college level coursework in a psychology major. When you go to college as a freshman, you'll also likely have the opportunity to take an entry-level psychology and/or human development course before you have to actually commit to a major area of study.

Any course in psychology is great. I took psychology as undergrad and masters and loved all my courses. If you want to take child psych it is great to learn and see if it is a good career choice. Also volunteer at places where you see on hands how the career you want to go in is great. Good luck!
