What are some good economics activities, organizations, or experience that I should try to include in my resume?

I'm currently a 2nd-year in college and I'm looking to apply to finance/economics internships, but I don't know what to include on my resume.

Hi Aaron!

If you are involved in any clubs at all finance/econ related I would highly recommend adding that to your resume and if not, I would recommend getting involved in one to show your interest. If you are a finance/econ major you can add those courses to your resume and create a skills section on your resume highlighting some areas you do well in those areas. Good luck!

When you're on the hunt for an economics internship, it's crucial to highlight pertinent activities, affiliations, and experiences that reflect your analytical prowess, enthusiasm for economic subjects, and hands-on knowledge. Here are some excellent examples you might want to consider adding to your resume:

Economics/Finance Club: Being part of your school or university's economics or finance club can be a great advantage. Here, you can engage in discussions about economic issues, invite guest speakers, or even run mock market simulations.

Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE): Being a member of this international honor society for economics not only displays your academic success but also your keen interest in the field.

National Economics Association (NEA): If you're involved with this association, don't forget to mention any conferences you've attended or research you've presented.

American Economic Association (AEA): Engaging with this association, whether through student memberships, conference participation, or utilization of their resources, can be highly beneficial.

Don't overlook Relevant Coursework and Projects, Volunteering, or Certifications and Online Courses. These are fantastic elements to emphasize!

Here's to you landing an internship that perfectly aligns with your aspirations. Good luck!

As a former Recruitment Manager, I just wanted to add to most of the hiring Managers I worked with over the years, they preferred candidates for internships that already had some previous work experience. The type of experience wasn't as important as having had an opportunity to work in a setting where you had to be reliable, punctual, productive, responsible, worked with others and had a supervisor. So I would list such experiences on your resume in addition to organizations, associations, clubs and other activities already mentioned previously. The experiences can include unpaid/volunteer or service projects, special camps or competitions, etc especially those tied to your your interest in finance, business economic.
