What is it like to work as a fashion magazine editor or journalist?
I am considering pursuing fashion journalism, but I don't know what the lifestyle of a journalist is. Is it mostly a desk job or would there be more walking around?

Working as a journalist is awesome. Your constantly doing different things, and learning never stops. I enjoy the most being on the field, listening to inspiring stories, and interviewing people. But I also like constructing stories at home on my laptop. Being a journalist depends on what area you decide to undertake whether Radio or TV. There's more to walking around, nowadays to capturing the best picture can go viral in seconds. If you love fashion, then go ahead and make your dream come true. My passion for journalism can take me anywhere from sports to inspiring stories.

First, I'm glad you know what area you want to work in-- but you may need to be flexible at first and work in other areas too. For example, I wanted to be a baseball writer, but back when I was in college, there were few women in this occupation. So I reviewed music and also wrote concert reviews, and got my foot in the door that way. That said, working in fashion can be a lot of fun, especially if it's something you enjoy. You get to meet interesting people (some famous, some not) and attend fashion shows; you will then write about what you saw. You will see the new fashions before anyone else, and you may often meet the designers. By the way, unless you own a publication, you probably won't start as an editor-- you will first usually begin as a reporter/journalist and gradually work your way up to become an editor.
