Are there any good fashion designers that I could follow on some form of social media? Also, are there any local fashion shows around or near Elk River, Minnesota?
I want to go into fashion design, possibly and was wondering if there were any known designers that I could take inspiration from? I'm also wondering if anyone knows any local fashion shows around Elk River, MN? I want to enter one in the near future.

Hello, Finley !
These are very good questions ! In order to pursue a career in fashion you will need to make your own original discoveries and be as unique as possible. I have some ideas for you even though there are no fashion shows in Elk River. You can change that, however !
As for following professionals that are known and successful, I would steer clear of social media and learn about the major designers and become familiar with their work. Here are the names that you can research and view their work: Virgil Abloh at Louis Vuitton for menswear, Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga, Alessandro Michele for Gucci, Jonathan Anderson creator of Loewe, Simone Porte Jacquemus whose company is Jacquemus (which I love), Raf Simons for minimalist and modernist style (sort of like my favorite, Calvin Klein), Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior, Christopher John Rogers a noted emerging designer, Vivienne Westwood, and anything under Donatella Versace for Versace. I would also recommend learning Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Victoria Beckham. Learn as much as you can from the noted designer brands that have long-lasting success. You can also consider Betsey Johnson for the free-spirited, fun styles she does.
Now, since there are no fashion shows in Elk River or an established fashion community, you can start your own. Start at school. Ask your teacher or guidance counselor if you can plan some fashion shows during the school year that would take place at the school. Form a group of other students interested in design, sewing, modeling and produce fashions shows. You would even need to approach other venues like cafes, restaurants, community centers, faith based venues. Also research community Fairs that may occur in Elk River. You can probably arrange to do your shows at fairs, too. The possibilities are endless. You can really bring the fashion world to your community !
Another way to practice styling and keep up with trends as well as discover your niche would be to register at Trend Me dot net. It is free and you can style outfits there. It's a good place to obtain feedback on your editorials you will make there and a super fun way to experiment with every style imaginable. It could be very inspiring for you and the community on that website is very supportive !
So remember that once you enroll in fashion school, you will most likely need to know the works of the current top designers and trends, so do all you can now to familiarize yourself with the fabulous world of fashion. Return here to ask more questions about the career, too. Best wishes in all you do !
