Hi, Andrew !

This is a good question !

The University of California at Davis is primarily known as having the best program in Agricultural Sciences. Not known for Math, they do however offer an Engineering program. UC Davis has the number one top ranked Veterinary School not only number one in the United States, but it's ranked number 1 in the world. So, no, it is not known as a Math University.

Keeping proximity in mind, I do not know that any college is really "known" for being a Math college, however, if you want a very strong Math Department to major at, you should look into San Francisco State University. Their strong program focuses on research, programs, and mentoring in algebra, geometry, combinatorics, analysis, applied mathematics, mathematics education, and data science. That sounds pretty good. None of the Ivy League universities are known for their Math program either. So maybe you can decide if it's that you want a good Math Department or a well-known university.

Some out of state colleges that have strong Math Programs are Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in your state, Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, Tufts University in Massachusetts, and Duke University in North Carolina. So it looks like you could decide between San Francisco State University or the California Institute of Technology and be an in-state student, or consider if you'd want to move and be an out of state student in which case the tuition would be higher.

The best thing for you to do would be to take an orientation at UC Davis and see for yourself what it is like there. You can first read their website and read their majors, but I do not think you'll find an actual Math major there.

I hope that this helps and I wish you all the best ! Keep exploring !
