How many years do you have to stay in school? Do it depends on what kind of doctor you want to be?

All specialties require 4 years of college and 4 years of medical school. Next follows residency which have different time commitments.
3-year residencies:
Family Medicine
Internal Medicine
Pediatrics
4-year residencies:
OB/GYN
Orthopedics
Pathology
5-year residencies:
Surgery
Radiology
6-year residencies:
Urology
3-year residencies:

Awesome that you are considering Medicine as a career!! To get in medical school you have to complete college, typically with a biology or chemistry degree but you can do a different degree as long as you get the pre-Med prerequisites. You will have to take the MCAT during or after college and once you apply and get into medical school you will spend 4 years there. During that time you will determine your specialty which will determine your residency and additional training. So it is a commitment but definitely worth it. Congratulations and continued success!!
