Securing a job is an exciting adventure that ideally begins during your college years, so do plan for the work it takes to find a job. Don't miss out on job fair events happening on campus - they're a great opportunity! These events usually take place in the fall, even for those who are set to graduate in the upcoming spring. Remember, internships are key stepping stones for many career paths. So, make it a priority to snag at least one internship and start applying for your dream job while you're still in college. You've got this!

College can be challenging if you don't have established study habits and know how to properly manage your time between school, work, your personal life, and any extracurriculars. It can be very tempting to put school work on the back burner during your first year of college, but it's important to remember that education is the reason you are there in the first place!

I struggled with developing good study habits and managing my time properly - my undiagnosed ADHD really came to a head during college. I never had to study in middle and high school, so when I got to college, I didn't know how to study. Because of this, I avoided studying and assignments until the last minute, which caused me to fail two classes, which I ended up having to retake (and they weren't free!). I learned quickly that I needed to make myself figure out how to study and do my homework in a timely manner instead of letting the fun parts of college and extracurricular activities take precedence.

If planners are your thing, that can be a good way of managing your time. Allocate so much time per day for homework/studying (even if you can only squeeze in 30 minutes). Your internship(s) will be based around your classes, and your homework/studying periods around that. Friends and fun can come after :) It's important to not bury yourself in school/work 24/7 and make time for a social life, but just make sure you are not falling behind on any assignments or in any classes.

The secret to harmoniously juggling academic responsibilities, personal life, and internships during college lies in pursuing what genuinely interests you. Students often find themselves burning out because they're studying a major or seeking a job that they've been nudged into (perhaps by parents, friends, or societal expectations). However, when your heart is truly in what you're studying, the internships you're undertaking, and the social activities you're participating in, dedicating time to these endeavors becomes less of a chore and more of a joy. This, in turn, paves the way for success in each of these areas. Generally speaking, the more passion and purpose you infuse into your personal objectives, the easier it becomes to reach them, as you're more than ready to put in the necessary effort.

Hi, Lucas! One of the biggest challenges I faced was managing time effectively between coursework, extracurricular activities, and internships. Balancing these commitments often felt overwhelming. To overcome this, I prioritized by creating a structured schedule, breaking tasks into smaller, manageable goals, and setting aside specific time blocks for studying, leisure, and work.
My advice for balancing workload with personal life and internships is to:
1. Plan Ahead.
Use a planner or digital calendar to keep track of deadlines and commitments.
2. Set Boundaries.
Designate specific times for work and relaxation to prevent burnout.
3. Learn to Say No.
Participate in activities that align with your goals and values rather than overcommitting out of obligation.
4. Stay Flexible.
Adjust your schedule as needed, allowing for breaks and downtime when things get hectic.
5. Seek Support.
Don’t hesitate to reach out for help from peers, advisors, or professors when you're struggling.

By staying organized and mindful of your limits, you can effectively juggle your responsibilities while maintaining a fulfilling personal life. Good luck! With love, Darya

Job’s Answer

Learn to study well and remember that college and all higher education is only worth what you put into it. If you want to excel treat education as an important job. The better you do the more opportunities you will have.
Work hard when you are young and have a much better overall life, buy a house, have savings, enjoy life. It worked well for me. I went to college at 16, by the time I was 21 I was a broker on the floor of the New York stock exchange. Then law school and an MBA in finance. I retired the first time at 50, but got bored and went back to work.
Good luck

Hello,
I did face some challenges in college. One for example was becoming bi polar in my third year college I had to overcome my working out my mental illness by taking care of my self. I took medication and saw a doctor weekly it wasn't a major set back because I overcame and graduated. As for balancing work load, personal life and internship I think the best advice would be time management and plan out your day. Also you should get enough sleep every night because that effects how you perform the next day. I hope this was hopeful for you and best of look with school and life!

Thomas’s Answer

Hello Lucas!

This is a great question to ask a lot of us who have put a lot of time and effort into our career paths and overall life experiences. I will say I had to work a little harder than most average college students. I was enrolled in full-time hours (12-16 credit hours a semester) and had two part-time jobs where I was living paycheck to paycheck. The reason I had to work a little harder was because I came from a low income household. I began working at the age of 15. Unfortunately, for me, by the time I got to college, having a job was just as important as going to school! But this also prepared me for my career and challenges ahead!!

College can be overwhelming at times. Work can create some burnout as well. However, always reflect on your journey and visualize where you are going! Let me add, that college will be some of the best times of your life! You'll create memories with people who are in the same situation you are in.

Want to balance workload and personal life? You have to make time! Put a little energy into managing your time. Or close your book. Close your laptop. In other words, pull yourself away from the workload. Go to the park with friends! Check out a new restaurant. Join a club or an intramural league where you can socialize and compete! If you are employed, ask for some time away! Balance comes with creating balance. Put yourself first!

As for internships, commit to an internship(s) you know that you will gain a lot of experience in, make a lot of connections, and will enjoy (regardless of the pay). Most internships are 2-6 months. Set a few goals! Create balance around those goals. good things will come!

If there is any advice I can give you, smile through it all, be good to people, and know that things will work out. The energy you put in, is the energy you'll get in return.

Best wishes!
