How can I manage my time more effectiely?

I am having a hard time managing my time between work and #school

Thank you comment icon Hi Joanna! There are a number of great analog and digital tools you can use to manage your time. If you have a smartphone, the calendar function can be used to block out time to study, time for chores, time for work, time to do what you enjoy and relax. If you prefer an analog system, I've recently started to bullet journal - http://bulletjournal.com. Bullet journalling is a productivity system and you don't need to spend lots of money on the fancier journals. Good luck! Heather Falsani

Hi Joanna, effective time-management is a process and takes time to master. Though I am not a master at this myself, I have listed below some approaches that I hope will help. How you can go about managing your time better depends on whether you are having a hard time with finding time to go to school or do your assignments or whether you are trying to find time to work. Either way, (and not knowing your situation) school should always take priority because it provides a foundation for your professional life, unless you need to work to afford basic necessities for yourself and/or your family.

Nodira recommends the following next steps:

Set time limits on the time you spend on a specific task and stick to them. For example, if you have to study, try to estimate how long it will take and stay on the task until you are done.
If you use social media, try to cut back on the time you spend on the sites. For example, I only surf the web or check email/Instagram/etc. once per hour and limit my time to 5-10 minutes.
Finally, sometimes it takes an honest conversation with yourself. Are you trying to do too much? You might consider looking at your school/work load and determining whether it is a realistic commitment or whether you might need to cut back.

Hi Joanna, managing your time can be a very difficult and many people struggle to do this effectively. There is no single way that can is the best or most efficient, but there are a number of things that you can do to help manage is prioritize the things that are most important to you. Managing work and school can be very difficult especially as you move into your junior and senior year and classes and the related coursework becomes more demanding.

I would recommend initially trying to determine a reasonable schedule for yourself including not only the credit hours that you are scheduled to take, but also the number of hours you need to work each week. It is important to establish reasonable expectations with your employer and let them know that classes are the priority and the base for your future. Once setting expectations for your overall schedule you should work to establish priorities and take time off from work when school becomes more demanding. Managing time between work and school may cause you to eliminate other activities (i.e. hanging out with friends, or other extra curricualr activities).

Overall I would suggest managing your time by establishing priorities and building a weekly schedule to determine what will work best for you. Creating a schedule will allow you to build in time for the things that mean most to you and will help you effectively manage your time.

You will need to focus on stress and time management. In order to manage stress you have to manage your time wisely. You have to set a routine for yourself and stick to it for the most part. Once you get into the groove of a routine it will be much easier for you to manage your time and have enough time for everything you need to do (including relaxing). Make yourself to-do lists on a weekly basis, use Google calendar or a planner to keep track of events, deadlines, and due dates. In addition to setting a routine and sticking to it, plan out relaxing activities into your day. Or set aside a time, after everything is done for the day, that you can have "me" time. I have also personally found it essential to not only find time for myself but also make use of that time in a way that is best for me and my holistic wellness. I have found the HeadSpace app to be an essential tool in helping me relax and generally feel more relaxed throughout the day, Guided meditation, even if you have a busy schedule, will make you feel more at ease and relaxed throughout the day as a whole (not just when you have the time to relax and focus on that "me" time).
