Selecting the perfect nursing school is a key decision on your journey to becoming a nurse. The ideal nursing school should provide a highly recognized program, seasoned faculty, robust opportunities for clinical rotations, and a high NCLEX pass rate. To pinpoint the top nursing schools for you, begin by investigating programs accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Some prestigious nursing schools known for their superior programs include Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

To discover the best match, weigh factors such as geographical location, institution size, program layout, and your individual preferences about campus atmosphere and support services. Seek out schools that provide practical clinical experiences at leading hospitals, as these opportunities will be vital for your training. Also, check if the school offers resources like mentorship programs, nursing student groups, and academic support to aid your success throughout your nursing education. In the end, the perfect nursing school is one that matches your career aspirations, delivers strong educational and clinical training, and provides a nurturing environment to help you flourish.

Martha’s Answer

Hi Zae'onna - I commend your interest in nursing. Nurses are key to providing good healthcare and are always in demand. Another good thing about nursing is that you can continue to educate yourself and gain more medical privileges.

We don't know where you live so we cannot advise about "2-3 hours away from home," but below are links to lists of leading programs nationwide. I would encourage you to visit a few campuses, making appointments for information sessions and tours. Even if you are not that interested in that particular program, being on campus will give you an idea of what matters to you and how nursing programs are structured.

Good luck!
