Beauty is such a large industry with many different career paths. I encourage you to do some self-discovery on what you actually like to DO: is it hands-on, creative, tactical, investigative, people-oriented, etc. This will help you determined where within the beauty industry you want to plug into. To help with your brainstorming, here are some options: cosmetology/esthetics, makeup artistry, influencer/blogger, product, development, beauty marketing & sales, fashion and beauty journalism. Do you want a job with structure and routine or would you rather be your own boss. Another good starting point is to look around you and see what type of companies or people you gravitate to. Is it Glossier? Vanity Fair? Makeup by Mario? Ariel? L'oreal? LVMH? Your hairdresser/esthetician? Hope this helps!

Hello! What an excellent query!

The beauty industry is a vast and diverse field with a multitude of career avenues. It's like a labyrinth of opportunities, with more options than you might initially imagine. Here are a few roles that could serve as stepping stones to various career paths:

1. Hair Stylist
2. Esthetician
3. Beauty Product Sales Representative
4. Trainer (for any aspect of the beauty industry)
5. Marketing Professional for a company that sells, markets, or trains people in the beauty industry

Your journey can either skim the surface or dive deep into the world of beauty, depending on your chosen path.

Take my wife, for instance. She's been a hair stylist for 23 years, working with top stylists and salons all around the globe (living and working in multiple states and 2 countries). She's transitioned into training roles while still practicing her craft. Her hands-on experience in the industry has given her a clear understanding of what it takes to be a sales rep, salon owner, trainer, and stylist. She's found that opportunities abound in many directions - it all hinges on where you decide to begin. Jumping in and getting your hands dirty, starting anywhere, is the best approach, as the skills you acquire can be applied to numerous roles in the beauty industry.

Alternatively, you could consider managing a salon or beauty store. This role allows you to grasp the financial aspects of the beauty industry while still being a part of it. Such experience could serve as a springboard, propelling you into a variety of other roles or companies as opportunities arise.
