Can I cheer in college while doing the military?

I am a student athlete at my high school. I'm a 3rd year varsity player and Captain on our varsity cheerleading team. Cheerleading gives me the opportunity to break boundaries for myself and has helped me become a better student. I wish to continue my cheerleading career in college but I also want to do the military as well. I am stuck between the two and continuing my education in the process as well. #cheerleading #education #military

Carmen’s Answer

Hi Carmen,

I think you can. I don't know too much on this topic but I came across this article on the New York Times.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/09/04/magazine/women-of-west-point.html

I would also recommend reviewing military academies.

If I find out additional information, I will make sure to share it with you.

Best wishes and let us know if you do find out more information on your end!

Chermone’s Answer

The short answer is yes. There are a couple of routes you can take to achieve this. 1. Is to go into the reserves. You will have to take 6 months or more to include basic and training. After that you will do your standard 1 month/weekend service and you can do your 3 week commitment over the summer. 2. You can go the ROTC route, where you will incur military service after you graduate from college. This too will allow you to cheer during school. 3. Go to a military academy, build up your college service, cheer during the football games, graduate and fulfill your military commitment. Good luck! IYAAYAS!!
