Martha’s Answer

Hi Chelsea, Justin gave you an excellent answer. Below are links to further information. The schools mentioned are not in Memphis. If you want to - and can afford it - I would recommend going away for college for at least a couple of years. You could learn so much by living in a different area and with people from all over. And you could build independence and confidence in yourself.

That said, the LeMoyne-Owen business program (link below) does sound good. If you apply yourself, you could get a good education at any school you choose. Good luck!

LeMoyne-Owen College, a well-respected HBCU in Memphis, could be a perfect fit for you. This institution provides a nurturing atmosphere for students with interests in arts and entrepreneurship. It offers fine arts programs, including dance, and resources to hone business skills. The college is known for its tight-knit community, a characteristic of many HBCUs, and its dedication to student success and empowerment can help you chase your dreams of dancing and starting your own venture.

If you're willing to explore options beyond Memphis, Tennessee State University in Nashville is another fantastic choice. TSU, a highly esteemed HBCU, offers robust programs in business and arts, including dance. It provides a supportive environment for students with diverse career aspirations, including entrepreneurship and creative fields. Although it's a bit of a drive from Memphis, it's worth considering for your dance and business aspirations.

While Memphis is mainly home to LeMoyne-Owen College, if you're open to exploring more options in Tennessee or neighboring states, consider these HBCUs:
* Jackson State University (Jackson, Mississippi) – About three hours from Memphis, Jackson State offers a strong business program and arts programs, including dance. It boasts a vibrant community and ample resources for students with entrepreneurial ambitions.
* University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (Pine Bluff, Arkansas) – Roughly four hours from Memphis, this HBCU offers a range of academic programs, including business and arts. UAPB has a lively campus culture and support systems for students aiming to start a business and pursue creative passions like dance.

Even though these schools aren't in Memphis, they're within a manageable distance and offer a mix of arts and business programs. They provide a supportive HBCU environment to help you achieve your entrepreneurial and artistic dreams.
