Hi Caitlin, as many have mentioned, the field of finance and business is vast, encompassing a multitude of job roles. My role, specifically, is in a financial institution's treasury management/commercial banking sector. Essentially, I assist businesses with their cash flow management, advise on the use of banking technology for efficient fund transfers, and provide guidance on fraud protection. This is a relatively lesser-known aspect of banking.

Moreover, I ensure that our deposit offerings remain competitive, adjust interest rates as per the market and our institution's balance sheet, and collaborate with the marketing team to enhance our visibility.

Curious about my daily routine? I work remotely, states away from our main office. My typical day includes internal and external meetings, reviewing reports, and strategizing for the future. The variety in my work keeps it interesting, steering clear of monotony. I usually clock in 40-50 hours per week, as my company prioritizes work-life balance and takes significant steps to uphold it. If you need more specific information, feel free to ask.

I am a tax accountant for PwC, a large public accounting firm. The average day varies, but I would say most days we have at least 8 hours of work, ranging from all different types of businesses/individuals and tasks. This is nice because you get to do different things every day and keeps you from getting bored. In the public accounting world working hours can increase during busy seasons by a good amount, because of this many people choose smaller firms instead where you have a more consistent workload. The average day for any career is hard to pin down, but many companies these days allow for more flexibility, such as working from home. It really depends on what you want and decide to do for what your days will look like!

Hi Caitlin, Your question is a very challenging one. It's like asking what's it like to be a painter? Do you mean a house painter or a portrait painter?
That said, I will try to give a little direction to your question.

First I suggest you ask yourself what you like: Do you like working for others or with others? Are you a team player? Do you like to solve problems? Are you mathematically inclined? Are you a planner or prefer direction from others? Knowing what you prefer to do or don't like to do can help you decide your direction.

That said, here are just some overview careers you might look into.

Finance positions run the gambit of: Personal Finance Advisor, Accounting positions (many), Investment banking, Statistician, Financial Analyst, Auditor, Economist, Forecasting,

Business positions may include: Working in a company as a Manager - Office Manager, H. R. Director, CFO, CEO, Security Manager, I. T. Director, Marketing, Small business owner, etc., which also includes Finance positions.

As you can see Caitlin, there is a lot of opportunity and direction you can go into. You may want to look into taking some type of aptitude test to help you sort out a direction.

Good luck Caitlin and let me know if you develop some specific questions.
