To become a doctor, you will want to take science and math courses. The college major doesn't matter too much, but many students will graduate with a bachelor's degree in something relevant, like biology. You will want to have a pre-med advisor for college as well. This degree usually takes 4 years. Working or volunteering at a hospital during this time will help you decide what type of doctor you want to be, and will also look great on applications for medical school!
After college, you will need to take the MCAT, which is a test required for admission to almost any medical school in the US. Medical school will last about another 4 years and focuses on general medicine. This will be learning in the classroom and also hands-on training during rotations where you will learn to diagnose and treat patients.
The last step in your training will be residency, and this can take 3-9 years depending on your specialty. If there is a subspecialty, you can consider fellowship training after the residency, and this typically adds another 1-3 years to your training.
There are many other doctoral-level professions in the medical field, such as audiology and physical therapy, that are very rewarding but can be completed in about 8 years.
