What is the best way you prepare for your AP Exams?

AP Exams are coming up and as we all know, if we get either a 3, 4 or 5, we get those college credits. Paying $100 or so per exam is better than paying close to $800-$1000 for those classes in college. So, my question to you is how to do you prepare for your AP Exam? How does your teacher prepare you? How far out do you start to study? Do you study by yourself or with a group?

Lindsey’s Answer

I suggest starting to study an hour or so a week for about a few months prior to the exam and gradually building that time once its within a few weeks. I found studying with groups for AP History and AP English to be really helpful as you get other perspectives. For the other subjects I reached out to my AP teachers and asked to set about a half hour a week before or after class/school for 5 weeks to go over any questions I had on topics and to recap what we've learned.

Listen in class throughout the year. Then start reviewing the material for about an hour a day for the month prior to the exam.

Katie’s Answer

Hi Zachary!

First of all best of luck with the exams! I think the most important thing for AP classes is to stay on top of studying. I found that what worked for me was throughout the year making study guides for each chapter that we went over of key terms, important information or key ideas. This helped me to study for the exams both by making them and by reviewing them later. Further, after the exams I would note anything that I got wrong and look for the correct answer. I would also compare my study guide to what was on the test to make sure I did not miss anything.

Before the exams, my game plan was always to start studying how every many days in advance it would take to study one chapter a day (so like 5 chapters would be 5 days in advance). On these days I would start by skimming the chapter, then looking at my study guide. From there I would make flash cards of anything I was struggling on or anything I had gotten wrong on the test. After studying and feeling comfortable, I would retake the test for that chapter.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
