Hi LaRissa, this is a great job for a high school student. The job description should mention the skills needed. But a description for a part-time job might not have that, so I have linked to a list of skills below. I saw other articles but this one seemed the most comprehensive.
You may not be familiar with the terms "hard" skills and "soft" skills. Hard skills are the technical ones related to swimming and lifeguarding. Soft skills relate to how you communicate with and encourage learners. Both are important to being an effective swim instructor. An entry-level role should give you a chance to strengthen both types of skills.
Good luck!
