You will need a minimum bachelor's degree from an accredited college in biology, ecology or natural sciences. You should start researching the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology, the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography. This is a small field so the demand for a zoologists may be limited. Certainly you should study biology and these related sciences because you can be teacher while you pursue your ultimate goal.

I highly recommend speaking with the staff at your local zoo. They can tell you about their own career path. Ask them for advice, lessons learned and what their day in the life is like.

They may also be able to help you get volunteer, shadowing or work experience to stand out in future applications. Its always helpful to get real experience. It can give you better responses to interviews and applications.
