What kind of safety issues will I learn about in culinary arts ?

One thing I'm not looking forward to is knowing the possibility of getting seriously injured and getting severely hurt, but that's the risk I'm willing to take with learning culinary arts

Andrew’s Answer

I am not so sure as to who told you it was as unsafe or as dangerous as you make it sound or think!!

When you go to chef school you spend weeks on knife skills and if you know how to handle a knife professionally you won’t hurt yourself that’s not say that you’ll never get hurt but after 45 years in a kitchen i’ve only been seriously hurt once and it was the fault of broken machinery! Most kitchens today are extremely safe and when your hired your usually shown around and won’t be allowed to use any equipment your not familiar with. You will be trained with all dangerous equipment and one of the most dangerous machine is the band saw for mostly cutting bones and hard to cut things but we don’t use that very much anymore. But if you use common sense and watch what you do always you’ll refrain from getting hurt. However I will say that you will get some nasty burns over the course of your career!

Safety standards are common practice in all restaurants. Cut gloves and equipment training. In my 25 years of restaurant management, I have seen and experienced very few major injuries
