What is the best study tool to learn economics for beginners?

I am taking Competitive Strategy at the Yale School of Management this semester. I have no economics background and even though the material isn't completely over my head, I feel intimidated and behind. What can I do to catch up, even a little? Is there a one-stop website or book that can help? #economics #business #graduate-school

Hi Alina, it seems that you might not have much time to actually go through a course or an intro level book. I would highly recommend going through some of the videos in Khan Academy on Youtube. They are usually less than 10 mins long and can provide you with a quick snapshot of each topic in a easy understandable way.

Anand recommends the following next steps:

The strategy course you are taking has to do with microeconomics and that would be the first topic you should search for on the Khan Academy channel. Then you can search for more specific topics like "Prisoners' Dilemma".

I would recommend going to the school book store and picking up an intro to behavioral economics/strategic planning and the tools of marketing as you will most likely be working in a case study environment which on the surface seems easy but your underlying goal is the your to beat your competitor to the finish line say for the development of a drug at the lowest cost and most efficient process in terms of production time. If you have good judgement and general horse sense those practical skills will also come in handy.

Matt’s Answer

There are a ton of economics lectures on youtube that you watch. You should look for intro to macroeconomics and microeconomics courses. Those will give you enough of a background to not feel overwhelmed/behind in your Competitive Strategy class.

Bonus Tip would be to also watch some stuff on game theory, that will certainly be discussed in CS.
