What advice would you give to prospective CRNA school students?

I have considered changing my dream health career choice many times. But a CRNA has always stood out to me, and has remained my #1 choice within the health field. I’m currently in college, expecting to apply for Nursing school next semester. I expect CRNA school to be more complex than Nursing school, so I was wondering to receive advice on this career journey of mine. Thank you!

Hello Brandy,

Here's some guidance to help you on your journey:

1. Strive for excellence in your academics. Remember, this is a highly competitive field, and your grades can make a significant difference.
2. Stay on top of admission deadlines. In this field, they tend to be quite stringent, and missing them could set you back.
3. If possible, aim to earn your nursing degree from an institution that offers this specific degree. They may be few, but the advantage of direct access to lecturers during your undergraduate studies can be invaluable.

While it's unclear whether this path will be more challenging than nursing school, it's crucial to stay focused on your immediate goal. Nursing school is demanding, and it requires your undivided attention and effort. However, don't lose sight of your long-term dream. Keep it alive and cherish it, as it will fuel your journey forward.

Heya...Pursuing a CRNA career is a fantastic goal that combines critical thinking, advanced clinical skills, and patient care. Focus on excelling in your nursing school coursework, particularly in physiology, pharmacology, and critical care concepts. After obtaining your BSN, prioritize gaining at least 1–2 years of ICU experience, as it's a prerequisite for CRNA programs. Develop strong time-management skills and a passion for lifelong learning, as CRNA school is rigorous. Lastly, network with current CRNAs and shadow them to better understand the role and build mentorship connections. Stay committed and keep your long-term vision in mind!
